What was the day that Jesus died?
Wednesday, despite the tradition of Good Friday. Good Friday is based on a misunderstanding of the New Testament by Christians unfamiliar with Jewish holidays. According to Scripture, the body of Jesus had to be off the cross by sundown of the day He was crucified. This was because the next day was a High Sabbath. A High Sabbath is NOT the weekly Sabbath (which was from Friday at sundown to Saturday at sundown). A High Sabbath was connected with a major holiday, in this case, Passover. The High Sabbath began at sundown on Wednesday, so Jesus was in the tomb before sundown. Jesus said He would be in the tomb three days AND three nights. It is impossible to be buried Friday evening and rise early on Sunday morning and have been in the tomb three days and three nights. Some try to say that Jews reckoned the day as less than 24 hours.
