What was the connection between the NWA and TNA?
The NWA gave TNA an exclusive license to the NWA World singles and tag titles, in spite of the fact that TNA has never joined the NWA. Allegedly the license was for a term of 10 years, at the termination of which TNA would have the option to purchase full rights to the titles outright. In further fact, despite speculation to the contrary, TNA did NOT PAY ONE CENT UP FRONT, and for that matter would not HAVE to come up with any cash UNTIL THE TEN YEARS WERE UP. The source for this information is unimpeachable. The arrangement was severed in 2007 without one red cent having ever been paid to the NWA. Yeah, I know. Way to preserve the legacy and make money, NWA. Sam Muchnick would be so proud.
