What was the color of the suit Elvis wore when he met Nixon, and did it have a cape?
This suit was commonly called the “Superfly” costume. It was black. There were a lot of people that will argue the point, saying it was purple. It was never purple. It consisted of one of the costumes Elvis wore in 1969 when he first came back to Las Vegas, cut similar to a karate ghee. Elvis wore a white shirt with full sleeves and a wide cuff and tall collar. Over top of this, he wore the jacket. However, he never put his arms thru the jacket–he wore it draped over his shoulders, giving it an appearance of him wearing a cape. There was never a cape manufactured for this suit. The jacket was black crushed velvet. The concept of this outfit being purple came from a far-fetched movie that was made called “Elvis meets Nixon”. The costume was most certainly black, with no cape.
