The Berlin Blockade occurred during the Cold War (June 24, 1948-May 12, 1949), and was the only international crisis of this type to actually result in deaths. The Soviet Union blocked the Western Allie’s access(road and railway) to the sectors of Berlin intending to force them to allow Soviets the right to start supplying Berlin with food and fuel. This would have given the Soviets control over the whole city.
