What was the attitude of the North after the First Battle of Bull Run?

First Bull Run scared the Union to the core, convinced both political and military leadership that they were ill prepared, untrained and ill equipped for combat on this scale. The picnic was over, a shake up ensued, political hacks lost their jobs, ancient but honorable Officers retired, the short term draft was ended, training and military production moved into high gear. The Civil War began.
