What was the ancient religion of Egypt called?
It is generally referred to as “ancient Egyptian mythology”, as people of the times didn’t think of their belief system as a single unit, but an unrivaled truth. In other words, they never named their religion because elements of it would always change and evolve as new pharoahs took the throne and new events in ancient Egyptian history led to the priests creating new doctrines and rituals. However, a number of Pharoahs *did* try to create a series of set religious beliefs, but after they died the people just resorted back to the mythological continuum. One example was Atenism, a monotheistic faith that Pharoah Amenhotep IV created and which lasted twenty years.
