Blacks were not treated fairly. They were refused entrance to places of business and employment. They had to fight for the rights that they were legally entitled to for nearly a century because whites for one reason or another, usually out of ignorance and prejudice, found justification to dislike them and disrespect them as equal human beings. As a white man, I cannot comprehend the level of debasement that they endured. I can only imagine my own limited thoughts of it. Out of this was born a movement to demand equal rights in the early 60’s to my knowledge.
