It was an act in England during the reign of King Henry the VIII which stated he was the only supreme head on earth of the Church of England. This basically did away with the power of the Pope in England, and, in a sense, Henry became the Pope for England. What are Indulgences? Indulgences are certificates that could be purchases from the Catholic Church which could be used to receive forgiveness of sin, or the shortening of time a person had to spend in purgatory. What was the Peace of Augsburg? This Peace was an agreement signed in 1555 by the German princes and Emperor Charles V which applied to Germany. Though the Emperor had gone to the Council of Augsburg with the idea of forcing the Protestant princes to become Catholic, the Protestant princes provided such opposition that an agreement was reached in which it was decided to let each prince decide on the religion of his area. If the prince was Catholic, his area would be Catholic. If he was Protestant, his area would be Protestan
