What was Sir Lancelot like, personality wise?
Okay, the legend typifies Lancelot as the epitome of the medieval concept of Chivalry and knighthood generally, then given a fatal flaw, like in Shakespeare’s heroes. The age held tightly to three core concepts, the church, the king, and oddly, for such a violent age, love. Lancelot , as we would see him, was a French knight, so honorable in god’s sight that he could kill anybody, and then pay proper respect to the corpse,.and all at the King’s (who ruled by divine right) bidding without question or pause. I am afraid these days we would find him to be a stiff, self absorbed killer with a religious complex, and a fetish for manners and custom. But this was looked up to and respected, at the time the myth was popularized.
