What was one reason why political machines were so successful in the late 1800s?
1. Many immigrants flocked to political machines because they were their only chances for political advancement. Unlike other political parties, machines were not critical of peoples ethnicity or origins and allowed them to join their party. This was also a time that not many immigrants had just come into America and many knew very little english and other people. Thus, they went to machines as a form of safety or stability. 2. Many thought that the government was not aiding them in matters that they found necessary. This is where machines came in and took over. In order to get votes, they performed favors for other people. They would build parks, roads, and fix buildings. 3. They also created a sense of community amongst people. They started hosted community picnics and parades, allowing people to come together and socialize. When, before, no one ever did this for them.
