What was one reason organized crime groups become more powerful during Prohibition?
They became more powerful because they sold illegal alcohol to people that had been smuggled in from over the border. The alcohol coul be used to tempt the police and so in exchange for alcohol the police would turn a blind eye on the groups crimes and so they could grow and get stronger without hassle from the law.
