Odysseus had the idea for the Trojan Horse, which enabled the Greeks to conquer Troy. After the war, he had a hard time (but many adventures) getting home, and took ten years to do so. He was reunited with his wife, who had waited faithfully all that time for him, and resumed his position as king, but he had been warned that he would not be fully reconciled with the god Poseidon (who was the main reason he had so much trouble getting home) until he carried an oar inland far enough that he found people who didn’t know what it was.
