The amount of time a nonconforming use can be deserted has changed over time and has been as short as six (6) months and as long as three (3) years. The most recent change was in 1997, when the standard was reduced from three (3) years to twelve (12) months. However, it is important to note the revised draft allows the Planning Director, not the Planning Commission, to administratively grant an additional three (3) year extension if the suspension of the nonconforming use was caused by emergencies or other extenuat
