What was Nero fiddling with, while Rome burnt?
Nero was said to be playing the lyre. Nero would often indulge himself in his artistic passions. He loved music and practice both singing and lyre playing for hours on end. When he felt he mastered these skills he would give public performances that coincided with festivals, one such festival was, the Neronia, an artistic compition modelled after the Olympic Games. Unsuprisingly, Nero would win these contests. While Rome burned, Nero was said to be indulging in his passion of music, this has not been historicaly proven. When Nero commited suicide in 68AD he laminated, before he commited the act, that it was a tragedy that Rome was to lose such an artist….as himself.
