What Was Malcolm McLarens Upbringing Like?
Malcolm McLaren the well known British impresario cum musician most famous for his role as manager of the punk rock band Sex Pistols was born in suburban London on January 22, 1946. He was raised by his grandmother as his parents split when he was two years old; his grandmother had a profound influence on Malcolm in his childhood. His mother remarried when he was of six years of age and the young Malcolm in later times could not get along with his step father and consequently left home in his early teens. After various small jobs he decided to enroll for formal education but was not able to complete it and left school in 1971; he discovered in this period that he had a natural talent for designing clothes which he later employed when he stated a boutique. London in this period was witness to several social changes and McLaren was influenced by the Situationist International Movement which promoted social change by way of extremism.
