What was Jonah’s sign to the Ninevites?
They were a sinful people and God asked Jonah to preach repentance to the Ninevites. Jonah didn’t want to go, tried to escape and ended up in the belly of a whale. God got his attention. Eventually Jonah did preach repentance to the Ninevites. Amazingly they repented and turned away from sin and were saved. Jesus has come as the Son of God to preach repentance and the forgiveness of sins. He is “something greater than Jonah”. That is an understatement! Yet, have we listened to His message? Do we keep looking for signs like the “evil generation” of Jesus’ time? Or do we recognize our sinful ways and turn away from them? This time of Lent is a time of conversion for each of us. We never “arrive” or “get it all right” in the Christian life. We all are in need of God’s mercy and love on a daily basis.
