What was it like working with Penelope Cruz?
Penelope is a really cool woman. I met her a year and a half ago, and hired her before this whole Penelope Craze hit. Her movies in Spain are phenomenal. She has been playing some reserved parts, and I was really hoping she d go for this empathetic but crazy character. You could think of a lot uglier people to work with everyday. How did Johnny Depp become involved with the film? When I finally got a script that I was happy with, I went and tracked him down in Europe (cause you kind of have to go find him). From my perspective, I wanted an actor to give me George Jung. I didn t want a movie star to come in and star in Blow. I really wanted the guy to be George. Johnny has done that on every film. You put Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Donnie Brasco, and George in the same room, and they don t look a like at all. I needed someone who was also sexy. Someone who would walk into a room and everyone would be like wow, who is that guy. Did you have any problems with the MPAA, as far as anythi
