What was it like to play for the Super Bowl Redskins of the 1980s?
DB: It was a grand feeling. When you get to the Super Bowl, you’ve got a team that’s really working well and is a very cohesive unit. You can take on almost anybody that you play against and you’ve got a far better chance of beating them. It takes a tremendous amount of teamwork and unity and everyone going for the same goal. As you get into the playoffs, you lose and you’re out, so it’s a do-or-die situation and it’s very, very intense. Q: What was it like to play for Joe Gibbs during those years? DB: Joe Gibbs brought a tremendous amount of imagination to the offense. He was an extremely gifted man. The defenses really hadn’t changed since Vince Lombardi first installed them with the Redskins. George Allen reused it and enhanced it and the defense stayed the same to the end of my career in 1988. But Gibbs brought a tremendous amount of imagination and variation to the offense. So in other words, we didn’t keep showing the same thing every game and we had enough creativity to disguise
