JOHN DUNN: The challenge and excitement of recreating Edie’s years in the mid 60s was a costume designer’s dream. There had never been a time politically or culturally in American history like this period and Andy Warhol’s Factory and New York were major centers of new thought and creativity. Edie was a primary muse for everyone who passed through the Factory and the freedom and revolution in clothing and style she espoused were clearly a huge influence on Warhol in particular. The fascination with Edie was in large part caused by her innate ability to juxtapose clothing and jewelry in ways we had never seen before. And I think that appealed to Warhol because he too made us look at art and creativity in a new way.
