The sixties were years of revolt ,young people seeked freedom from everything and everyone , the sexual revolution was born, drugs, music changed, the Vietnam war , the taste and wants were changing Baby Boomers were the product of parents that went trough WW2 we were raised different more rebellious we had a mind of our own and this was freedom that changed the cultural attitude . The taste in furniture changed we liked bright neon colours ,we were on the move a lot therefore we needed furniture that was light to carry but on the contrary it wasn’t cheap , especially in the sixties the wages were not as today , some only made $1.00 per hour I remember a white stand ash tray was $15.00 those days , now we call those things “Retro” and we are willing to pay for them perhaps 4 x the price that they once were .
