What was Dutch life like under German rule, during WWII?
During World War Two some people, who had different thoughts than the Germans, were threatened. Hitler had forbidden all political parties who had different thoughts than he had. As we know from the story of Anne Frank, Jews were treated differently than other people. This is called discrimination. In WWII, the Nazi’s blamed the Jews for all kind of problems and to the Jews was said: “You are not worth living, you don’t belong here”, and other things like this. Jewish children were not allowed to go to normal schools with other children anymore, they were isolated. In front of the windows, there were warning signs with texts like: ” Forbidden for Jews”. Even walking through a park was forbidden for Jews. Later on, Jews had to wear the Star of David on their coat, so everybody could see they were Jewish.
