What was Diderots “encyclopedia” about and how did it effect the age of enlightenment?
To the best of my recollection, it was the first true encyclopedia, with many articles on natural history, mathematics, philosophy, literature, etc. So basically it was the prototype of the encyclopedias we have today (which used to be a lot more important before the internet caught on). It was essentially an attempt to gather all the current knowledge of the time (18th century France) and publish it, so it would be widely available throughout society. FYI, Wikipedia is notoriously inaccurate and not accepted as a source by most reputable schools. Anyone can edit one of their articles anytime they feel like it. I’ve made changes on it before, written a bunch of crazy lies as a childish (but funny) prank. I thought almost everyone had done this.
