What was CLR James like?
Dr. James was a very gracious and humble man, as true scholars are. He had a loving and supportive wife as well. Imagine helping a young 19 year old he hardly knew. I had met him earlier when writing as a journalist about the 6th Pan African Convention. You made Hajj in 1992, a life changing experience for many, in which your station in life is raised. What affect did this have on you? It was tremendous. Allah has allowed me already to make Hajj and visit The Prophet’s masjid in Medina. In 1984 I got to visit Al Aqsa masjid in Jerusalem. I’ve visited the three most important masajid, and going to hajj was of course a dream come true. It was such a high, and prayers I made seemed to happen immediately. I just thank Allah for allowing me to have made hajj. Alhamdulillah! Inshaallah I would love to return. I would love for my wife to be able to go with me.
