It was a colony of the British empire that served as a dumping ground for Britain’s criminals up until the mid 1860s.with Western Australia and the swan river settlement being the last convict outpost This came about as a result of Britain having such major social issues and the aristocracy and the crown being either unwilling or unable to manage its society in a humane manner.
