What was a positive thing about the guillotine?

Guillotine may be harder to watch but at least it’s 100% going to sever the spinal chord which to my understanding should put the victims brain into a shock state so they feel pain only momentarily during the cut. Even though it does take a few minutes for the brain to actually die and it was proven long ago they retain conciousness during that time the study seems to indicate they are able to understand verbal input and respond in signal with their eyelids. This ability to understand and respond may indicate that they feel no pain, or at least little since if one is in agony we know they will usually be too preoccupied with that to communicate.
