What was 16th century TUDOR ENGLANDs society like?
Life in Tudor England was very pleasant for the privileged rich and not unpleasant for the underprivileged poor. The rich could do pretty much anything they wanted, provided it didn’t involve the internet, television, fast cars, indoor plumbing, or any of Shakespeare’s plays. The poor spent most of the time working and they didn’t get a lot of quality time, but they were generally well fed, and they were hardy people used to living in a harsh environment. People living in towns got used to the smell of raw sewage so it didn’t bother them too much. The worst off were those who, for whatever reason, were unable to work. There was no NHS or DSS to look after them, so they became beggars and thieves, and spent most of their time in stocks or on gibbets.
