The Pentium III processor with 512K cache requires the use of VRM8.5. While previous 256K cache Pentium III processors required VRM8.4. If designing a universal platform to support both processors you VRM solution needs to follow the VRM8.5 spec which is backwards compatible with the 256K cache Pentium III processors.
