What vitamins should a vegetarian substitute for the meats they lack?
You must be careful as your body adjusts to this new diet you’ve started. Humans have been consuming meat and fish for 10,000 years or more and have flourished on it. I commend your efforts to eat cleaner and lighter and perhaps make less of an enviromental impact in this world, but you must see how your body feels and reacts to cutting out protein. Each body type reacts differently, with some doing fine and others experiencing skin problems, hair loss and more.
Though supplements can’t replicate the benefits of digestive breakdown of a certain food,(hence the name supplement) there are two I would suggest. In her classic book "Your Body Knows Best", Ann Louise Gittleman,M.S. states, One of the most common deficiencies I see in vegetarians is a lack of zinc, a crucial mineral for proper immune, reproductive and blood sugar functioning….Other possible problems vegetarians frequently can develop are deficiencies in several amino acids that animal proteins provide.
So zinc and the essential amino acids (there are nine essentials that usually can be had in one pill) are what you’d be looking for. Yet still monitor yourself as to any negative changes you may feel. And enjoy the positive ones that occur.
