I had been told that the acidity of cranberry juice is what prevents urinary tract infections, but according to Science Daily, it is actually the chemicals proanthocyanidins (PACs) in cranberries. These chemicals prevent E. coli “from adhering to these urinary tract epithelial cells by affecting the surface properties of the bacteria.” So not the vitamins, not the acidity, but the chemicals present in cranberries.
