What violent act did Peter commit in the Garden of Gethsemane?
Peter wasn’t aiming for his ear – he was trying to split Malchus in two from top to bottom, but instead he ducked. As Malchus was the High Priest’s slave, he would have been very close to him, so it is likely that Peter was actually after Caiaphas. (If he had not been stopped by Christ, Peter would have been guilty of the first-degree murder of the the High Priest, the Sanhedrin, Temple Guard, and the whole Roman army.
