Haali Video Renderer and Overlay Mixer should both give accurate display on the majority of systems. After that, EVR is hopefully better, then the various VMR7/9 modes tend to randomly work or fail depending on your system configuration. In particular: • Haali’s should work on all systems apart from specific cases (upscaling is reportedly broken on the ATI HD 2600 series, and possibly others from the R600 generation). Note that you need a decent GPU, but around GeForce 6600 or better should be fine. • Overlay Mixer also should, with two caveats. Secondly, there are color controls in your video driver config (for NV and ATI at least) that change what overlay looks like, and they aren’t always set to sane (neutral) values by default (NVidia is especially bad at this). • EVR is the ‘next-gen’ renderer added in Vista by Microsoft. It is known to be broken in ZP 5 and is not perfec

• XP: the default Overlay Mixer. • Vista or 7 with Aero enabled: MPC-HC’s EVR-Custom Presenter, madVR, Haali’s Renderer. • Vista or 7 with Aero disabled: Overlay, madVR.
