What values define the Hippie movement?
Peace, Love, and respect for our environment. Yes, we were against war and really believed there could be a peaceful way of settling disagreements. Yes, we believed that if we all loved each other, the world would be a better and more harmonious place. Some of us took the “love each other” to the extreme and were pretty wild and crazy sexually. Yes, we used drugs to “escape” and go to a better place “with tangerine trees and marmalade skies”. LSD was considered the ultimate vehicle to “let your mind be free from the chains society has on you”…. Rock music was new, radical, and practically made just for us. What could be better than a few hits of acid and being at a Jimi Hendrix concert…….you need to go find some music by Crosby Stills and Nash, the Who (early days), Joan Biaz, Country Joe and the Fish, Bob Dylan, Doobie Brothers, the Beatles, Grateful Dead, Hot Tuna, Jefferson Airplane…….to name a few – and REALLY listen to the lyrics.
