I work for a boarding kennel and we require that a dog be UTD with Parvo, Rabies, Distemper and Bordatella (kennel cough) at LEAST 48 hours in advance and suggest 14 days in advance before boarding. Each kennel will have different requirements, you’ll have to call and ask THEM. If it were my dog, I would make sure he was UTD on ALL available vaccinations as well as fleas/tick treatments regardless of kennel requirements. As for “paling off shots you don’t actually need,” the only one I can think of would be Lyme Disease… which I wouldn’t worry about at all because of my location and the fact that I’ll be using flea/tick treatments anyway. Aside from Lyme, you should get vaccinations against everything else before boarding. Sure, the odds of your dog getting a specific disease are low and the vaccine may seem unnecessary, but if there is even ONE dog in that facility that has it… your dog can get it.
