What useful purpose do relevant bacteria serve 4 human body?
In response to message posted by yamayama: The odor itself has no function that I know of for the bacteria. Basically the bacteria are breaking down nutrients to generate energy and building blocks so they can grow and reproduce. They do not do a complete job of breaking down nutrients and some of the byproducts of their breaking down of these nutrients are very smelly. The smell of fecal matter is useful to us in that it encourages us to avoid contact with it. It is not a good idea to have a lot of contact with fecal matter and the odor helps keep us away.
