yamaha YZ 125 cc Kawasaki KX 125cc Honda CRF 150R Great learner bikes, and once you get some experience and want to move to a bigger bike, any of the above bikes but with 250cc motors would be sufficient, unless your brave enough to just jump from a 125 or 150 to a 450, which i would not advise…

Okay, for starters I have to address some of these other answers. A KTM 650 for a female beginner…WTF?? An XR250 might be okay but will be a little tall for your height. A Honda CR125 is not a “smaller” bike, it is the same physical size as a CRF450. They are not easy to ride and they suck on trails. A 5’3″ person sitting comfortably on a RM250..I don’t think so. The folks that suggested the Honda CRF150F and TT-R230 are right on the money. Check out those two bikes as well as the Honda CRF230F.Any of these 3 bikes would be perfect for you.
