What upset hitler and the nazis in the 1936 Olympics ?
At the Berlin Olympics in 1936, Hitler hoped that the German athletes would dominate and be victorious. Nazi propaganda promoted concepts of “Aryan racial superiority” and depicted ethnic Africans as inferior. To Hitler’s surprise and indeed disgust, the hero of games was Jesse Owens, a black American, who won 4 Gold medals. Hitler refused to shake hands with him and only shook the hands of the German victors.
