What units of measurement does FFR use?
FFR is a ratio or index, not a physical unit of measurement. However, the index is a direct representation of the percentage of normal maximum achievable blood flow through the stenosis. For example FFRmyo = 0.75 means that the stenosis has reduced the maximum achievable blood flow to 75% of the normal value. By definition, then, a normal, non-diseased artery must have 100% of the normal maximum flow or FFRmyo = 1.0. This normal value has been demonstrated experimentally and in humans (9) .
