What undergraduate subjects best helped preare you for law school? What were the least helpful?
When I got to law school I realized how invaluable my ability to read critically and to write were — that’s such a big part of law school! I did have to learn a new style of writing. Writing for English classes is much different than writing for law school! Shakespeare and law briefs really don’t mesh. However, the training for writing that I received as an undergraduate helped me make the transition easily, and to this day I’m known for my great brief writing! (Okay, I’m tooting my own horn, but are you really surprised? I’m an attorney! ) I majored in English because I enjoyed it, not because I thought it would serve me well in law school, so it was an added perk! The least helpful? Math. I hated math — that’s why I went to law school.
