What types of ticks transmit LD?
• Ixodes scapularis (northeastern and north-central U.S., black-legged deer tick) • Ixodes pacificus (Pacific coastal U.S., Western black-legged tick) Ticks prefer to live in wooded areas, low-growing grasslands, seashores, and yards. Depending on the location, anywhere from less than 1 percent to more than 50 percent of the ticks are infected with spirochetes.
