In this FOA, NCMHD is interested in supporting the development, implementation and evaluation of effective disease intervention research studies using community-based participatory research (CBPR) methods and principles. The focus of the intervention research is to reduce and eventually eliminate health disparities in major diseases of public health importance which disproportionately affect racial and ethnic minorities, individuals with low socioeconomic status, the medically underserved populations, and those living in rural areas. Diseases of major public health importance may include cancer, cardiovascular disease, HIV/AIDS, diabetes, hepatitis B or other conditions of concern to the community. The type of intervention data required is listed on page 8, Section IV.2 under C. Preliminary studies. These include: C1. Research Planning Activities- Describe the required research planning activities of the academic and community partnerships as outlined in Section III.3 of this FOA. C2.
