What types of student organizations are there?
Honor societies: Membership in honor societies is by invitation only. Specific selection criteria vary among the societies, but generally applicants must be upperclass students with a 3.0 to 3.5 minimum overall grade point average. It is possible to be invited to join more than one honor society, in which case you hold a double honor. Professional societies: Students can explore various facets of their engineering fields through meetings and field trips. They learn about their profession, meet with practicing engineers, keep abreast of engineering developments, and get acquainted with faculty and other engineering students. Social organizations: Membership in social organizations (sororities and fraternities) is usually by invitation. These groups plan social functions; some provide housing opportunities for members.
