What types of situations should snail mail be used for?
The return address is very important. Not only can it be used by the recipient to return correspondence, it can give your location to people so they know where to find you. Suppose you are sending out informational letters to second-semester freshman about Alpha Phi Omega and rush week, they should be able to find your office or at least the correct building, by using the return address line.
