In this day and age there are 4 times of punishment: 1. Capital punishment: This means the death penalty – It is not practiced in the UK. 2. Prison sentences: This requires the criminal to spend a term in prison. This can be anywhere from a week to life – This is the main formal punishment in the UK. 3. Fines: This is when the guilty criminal has to pay the government a fine as compensation for the crime – This is the most common punishment for small or petty crimes. 4. Community service: Community service is where the person convicted of crime has to serve the local community in ways such as removing graffiti, cleaning streets, and helping the young and elderly.
