A202: There are three types of DESQview programs: DESQview-oblivious programs, DESQview-aware programs, and DESQview-specific programs. According to the DESQview manual, DESQview-oblivious programs are those which are “written without any consideration for DESQview”. These include standard DOS programs like word processors and spreadsheets. Some standard DOS programs have the ability to detect the presence of DESQview. These programs are considered DESQview-aware. The advantage of DESQview-aware programs is better system performance, because DESQview does not have to make conservative assumptions about the program. A DESQview-aware program gives up the CPU when it doesn’t need it, and if it writes directly to the screen it instead writes to a DESQview-provided video buffer so it can run in a small window (see Q305). If you’d like to make your program DESQview-aware, there is code provided in Appendix J of the DESQview manual. DESQview-specific programs can only be run while DESQview
