What types of PCR result in simultaneous amplification of fragments with different lengths?

A PCR with so called “broad range” primers could also result in multiple bands. For example, there are primers that will target conserved regions in and around ribosomal genes (present in all living organisms). If these primers are amplifying a region of variable length (around the Internally Transcribed Spacer region for example between the 18S and 5.8S gene in fungi) they could result in multiple band, if you are amplifying a mix of fungi.
