What types of modeling is there?
You can differentiate modelling into two major mainstream classes (that both include swimwear): Commercial, and Editorial. Commercial modeling is all about catalogue fashion – clothes you’d see on the street being modeled by girls you’d see on the street. Commercial modeling is almost always photographic, and rarely runway (though pret-a-porter or ‘ready to wear’ is higher end commercial fashion). Editorial modeling is like what you’d see in Italian Vogue, and on the runways at Fashion Week. This is much higher end, more expensive, and the birthplace of supermodels. Then of course there is the alternative such as gothic, burlesque etc.
