What types of mineral will the MSAD cover?
Each county in England needs to identify preferred areas for the extraction of aggregates (sand, gravel and crushed rock), based on figures allocated by Government. In Dorset, we also have other valuable and unique minerals that we could identify preferred areas for, taking into account environmental, economic and social considerations. These are ball clay, used for the production of ceramics such as toilet bowls, tiles and porcelain insulators, and Purbeck Stone and Portland Stone, locally and nationally important building materials. Other types of stone are also found in Dorset and are important for local building and restoration work.
