What types of letters of recommendation are required?
We request at least three but no more than six letters of recommendation from persons who know you well enough to evaluate your scholarly potential and promise as a physician. Professors (science and non-science), instructors, thesis advisors, and supervisors of special projects, clinical, volunteer or employment activities usually provide the most informative letters. These letters may be accompanied by an undergraduate school’s premedical committee evaluation. Letters from teachers who do not know you beyond grades and class rank are discouraged. You may waive your access to letters of recommendation under the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 01977, and other laws. Please refer to the Waiver of Access to Confidential Letters of Evaluation Form. If you have waived access to your letters through your school’s Pre-medical Advisory Committee or through the electronic letter service, it is not necessary to complete the waiver. Please have each letter author or the letter service
