Please consult the 1986 version of TB MED 577 and an information paper on Water trailers authored by WSMP, and the operation and maintenance technical manual found in our reference page. Question: I need information about the potable water in storage tanks aboard Army vessels. Do any chemicals, including chlorine, have to be added to the water if it is obtained in the US? Could you please send me some information and let me know if anything has to be added to the water? Answer: As long as the water received from the shore-side transfer point has a Free Available Chlorine (FAC) level of 1.0 mg/L or greater, you don’t have to add more chlorine. If the water you are receiving has less than 0.2 mg/L FAC, you need to add chlorine to achieve the 1.0 mg/L needed. A determination of the chlorine residual level should be made at the time the potable water is taken aboard. This information can be found in TB 43-0153 that deals with water supply aboard Army floating vessels. YYou can obtain a cop
