What types of funding are available for doctoral students?
The Environmental Studies Program works with focal departments to put together a package of support to offer individual students when they are accepted into the program. Since funding levels and commitments vary greatly from department to department, our offers of support are determined case by case. In general, we try to make our offers comparable to those made to students entering directly into Ph.D. programs in the focal departments. At a minimum, each student accepted into the ESSP doctoral program receives one year of graduate teaching fellow support. As described above, graduate teaching fellowships provide a stipend, tuition waiver, and health insurance. In 2007-2008, stipends for doctoral students range from $524/month to $831/month (depending on assignments and level of progress through our program), and doctoral students teaching independent classes earned $1358/month. These amounts are subject to change and may increase before the next academic year.
